Design

The Acer Aspire E5-471-59RT has a glossy red paint job done chassis, though this chassis is not really fingerprints resistant but you won’t be able to notice it easily on the metallic surface. The bottom of the laptop and bezel are made up of black matte finish plastic, enhancing its design look. The Acer Aspire E5-471-59RT measures 13.6 x 9.8 x 1.2 inches and weighs 4.6 pounds, so this laptop is bit heavier than Dell Inspiron 14. The size and weight of the laptop is enough to make it a decent portable laptop.

Display

Acer Aspire E14 (E5-471-59RT) comes with a 14 inch display with 1,366 x 768 pixel resolution, which is now a day common for mid range laptop. The color of this display is good but not great. Viewing angles are also poor. When tested for color reproduction, it scored 55.3 percent of sRGB color spectrum, which is slightly better than Dell Inspiron 14 but way less than 77 percent average score of thin and light laptop. The brightness of the display measures 207 nits, which is equal to Dell Inspiron 14.

Keyboard and Touchpad

The Acer Aspire E14 (E5-471-59RT) has a very good keyboard layout. The keys of this system are also good with 1.6 mm travel. By using for a while I got my average speed of typing on this keyboard. So you won’t have any problem in typing as this keyboard felt quite good.

The Aspire E5-471-59RT has a 4.1 x 2.5 inch touchpad, which is smooth and responsive. It worked fine for both gestures (such as two finger scroll and pinch to zoom) and mouse movements.

Audio

The Acer aspire E5-471-59RT comes with couple of speakers, which are situated on both front corners of the laptop. The speakers of this system produce loud music but the quality of sound is not that great. It lacks in bass.

Heat

The Acer Aspire E14 (E5-471-59RT) remains cool for our heat test, although bottom of the notebook gets a bit hot as compared to its other parts. The touchpad and keyboard stay cooler than that of the bottom of the laptop. The bottom of this laptop also did not get too hot.

Ports and Webcam

The Acer Aspire E5-471-59RT comes with enough amounts of the ports to connect any external devices. It has two USB 2.0 ports on the right side of the laptop and there is one SD Card reader on the front side. There are one USB 3.0 port, a headset jacks, a VGA jacks, Ethernet port, and HDMI port on the left side of the laptop.

This system also features a 720 pixel webcam, which is good enough for video calling and conferencing but not good for taking selfies. The image quality is bit grainy and dull.

Performance

Acer Aspire E14 (E5-471-59RT) comes with a 1.7 GHz Intel Core i5 4210U processor with 4GB of RAM and 500GB of 5400 rpm hard drive. The performance of this laptop is not that good. It doesn’t perform well when I streamed HD videos while running full system scan in background and browsing the Web in 6 Chrome tabs as it has only 4 GB of RAM. But you can add another $ GB of RAM at additional cost of $40. The media file transfer rate of this notebook is 29.2 MB per second, which is faster than its more costly competitor ASUS ViviBook 23 MBps file transfer but less than Dell Inspiron 14 5000’s 31.6 MBps speed.

Graphics

Acer Aspire E14 (E5-471-59RT)comes with Intel’s Integrated HD Graphics 4400, which is decent. Most of the companies are providing this medium graphics with this price range laptop. This is enough for streaming videos, playing less graphics games and going through pictures on Web Sites. On 3Dmarks Ice Strom Unlimited test, it scored 35,883, which is decent as it is way behind the Dell Inspiron 14 5000’s 43,013 score.

Battery life

The Acer Aspire E14 (E5-471-59RT) has stunning battery life. On our battery test, the laptop lasted for 8 hours and 20 minutes, which is one hour more than Dell Inspiron 14 5000 and VivoBook V451LA. This is also almost 40 minutes longer than the average battery life of thin and light laptop.
